Mechanical BIM Drafting Technician

We are looking for 2 full-time Mechanical BIM Technicians. One position is located in our Richmond office and the other position would be located in our Virginia Beach office. This position reports to our Chief Operating Officer. 

Purpose:

A Mechanical BIM Technician’s role is to collaborate directly with our Mechanical Engineers and Operations team to design systems using AutoCAD and BIM that function well, meet our client's needs, and are designed to last. Ideal candidates will have strong problem-solving skills, excellent organization skills and be detail oriented. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; with the ability to work independently or on a team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare code-compliant mechanical design drawings using AutoCAD and BIM. 

  • 3D drafting of commercial and institutional building mechanical (HVAC) systems.

  • Read and interpret architectural & mechanical engineering drawings/blueprints. 

  • Analyze internal needs with engineering team to create designs and modify existing designs. 

  • Complete part detail and assembly prints per engineering standards and best practices. 

  • Create mechanical one-line and three-line diagrams and mechanical controls schematics. 

  • List materials for ordering and fabrication. 

  • Coordinate with and consult with other team members to design or layout detailed components and to resolve design or other problems. 

  • Familiar with MEP disciplines and Revit coordination to effectively communicate with internal teams of engineers 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Detail Oriented 

  • Collaborative 

  • Ability to work across multiple disciplines 

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 

  • Strong problem-solving skills  

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)  

  • Ability to work independently or on a team  

  • Revit MEP and AutoCAD proficiency required 

  • Previous work experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM) desired 

Additional experience / skills:

  • MEP experience highly desired 

  • New building construction industry experience
