Kevin Allen, P.E.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Kevin joined the firm in 1988. He is and has been a role model for our entire team, inspiring us to bring the utmost quality and integrity to our projects. Kevin’s reputation in the industry is unmatched, and we value the wisdom and mentorship that he provides. In addition to his duties as CEO, he acts as the firm’s Mechanical and Plumbing Quality Control Agent. He also performs many of our business development services, including project interviews and client relations development.

Kevin is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia and a recognized LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

 
 
 
 

Kenzie Cambar, P.E.

PRESIDENT

Kenzie joined the firm in 1989. He serves as our firm’s Electrical Quality Control Agent, ensuring our designs meet the highest standards. He is also responsible for our firm’s information technology and has been instrumental in keeping our hardware and software resources optimized.

Kenzie is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia and a recognized LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

 
 
 
 

Matthew Haltiner

Chief operating officer

Matt joined the firm in 2000. He now serves as the Mechanical Department Manager, working with our staff to grow their expertise in Mechanical Design and Project Management. He has been instrumental in overseeing the expansion of Thompson Consulting Engineers into the Richmond and Virginia Beach markets. Matt also works closely with our clients, assisting them with their maintenance and replacement needs.


 
 
 
 

Gregory (Joey) Allen, III, P.E.

Chief financial officer

Joey joined the firm in 2010. As Chief Financial Officer, he plays a pivotal role in our firm’s exploration into tax and investment strategies to improve our business operations. With mentorship from our former CEO Mark Thompson, Joey identifies opportunities to reduce our liabilities while building a more solid financial footing for our company. In addition to his role as CFO, Joey manages our Plumbing Department, diligently supporting the plumbing team through resource development and mentorship to ensure their professional growth and success.

Joey is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and a recognized LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

 
 
 
 

Keith Dignan, P.E.

vice president

Keith joined the firm in 1998 and served as a senior electrical engineer for many years. As Vice President, he serves as Electrical Department manager and directs our Construction Administration and Commissioning teams to carry out their duties providing these services at the highest level. Keith also continues to market the firm and its capabilities to existing and potential clients and has a major role in the development and success of our Richmond branch office.

Keith is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and a recognized LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Electromechanical Engineering.

 
 
 
 

Mark Thompson, P.E.

emeritus PRINCIPAL

Mark continues his emeritus role as an advisor to the Board of Directors. His father, Mathew J. Thompson, III (Jack) founded our company in 1954. Mark joined the firm in 1984 and served as President and CEO for many years. Mark also assists the firm with special business-related tasks as needed.

1954

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

In 1954, Mathew J. Thompson III, P. E. opened our firm’s doors for business. His graduation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University’s Mechanical Engineering program was preceded by his graduation from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company Apprentice School as well as his service in the US Navy during World War II.

1973 – 1987

ESTABLISHING EXPERTISE IN ENGINEERING

In 1973, the company was incorporated as Mathew J. Thompson III, Consulting Engineers, Inc. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Thompson served as President of the Consulting Engineers Council of Virginia in 1974-75, and in 1987 he was recognized as Engineer of the Year by the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and the Engineers Club of the Virginia Peninsula.

2002 – 2005

A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS

In November 2002 Mr. Thompson retired, and the firm was purchased by Mark W. Thompson, P.E., George H. Chappell, Jr., and Kevin D. Allen, P.E. In 2005, to recognize the new leadership and ownership of the firm, the company’s trading name was changed to Thompson Consulting Engineers.

2009 – 2021

SIX DECADES OF EXCEPTIONAL MEP DESIGN

In 2009, the firm moved from Newport News to its new, larger facility in Hampton.

2021 – Today

GROWTH AND EXPANSION

In 2021, Thompson Consulting Engineers opened its Richmond branch office in Glen Allen, VA. Staffed by Engineers, Construction Administrators, and Commissioning Agents this full production location enhances the firm's ability to serve its partners and clients in central and western Virginia. In spring 2022 the firm completed its leadership transition, establishing a new executive team with expanded roles to further support the growth and development of our company. Additionally, the firm opened its Virginia Beach branch office to better serve our clients and staff in the Tidewater region.
